Ride Review: Ernie’s Rub-a-Dub Sub at Sesame Place San Diego

During our recent trip to Sesame Place San Diego, we were able to ride each of the land based rides.  I will be sharing a short review as well as some 360° pictures and ride videos.

Today’s ride review is from Ernie’s Rub-a-Dub Sub, a cute little submarine that lifts you off the ground and spins you around in circles. It starts by spinning forward for about 40 seconds, then reverses and spins backwards for 40 seconds.

At Sesame Place San Diego, they have a sign similar to the one below at the entrance to each ride, both land and aquatic, that goes over the Safety Requirements, Safety Instructions, as well as a Sensory Guide. The Sesame Place parks are the first parks in the world with a Certified Autism Center rating. The Sensory Guide “provides insight on how a child with sensory processing issues may be affected by each sense for rides and attractions at Sesame Place.” See the Sesame Place website for more details on what the certification entails.

Ernie’s Rub-a-Dub Sub is a bit of a unique ride that has just 1 ride vehicle and seats about 16-20 people on board.

When the ride begins, you move forward a bit and the ride lifts you off the ground about 25 feet up in the air and you spin in circles. After a few spins, the ride stops and reverses for a few more spins.

The flight time is around a minute and a half, once the motion begins. The video above is a fun interpretation of the deep sea exploration your little ones are sure to imagine while on this ride!

If you’re ready to start exploring a visit to Sesame Place San Diego, I recommend checking out Undercover Tourist for your ticket options.  I’ve already used them twice, once at Disneyland and once at Disney World and will plan to continue comparing their prices with other sites, however I usually come back to UT because they have the best deals and their instructions make it easy to add your tickets to the Disney apps.
